Aegean Flotilla Nafplion route

At a glance

View full size flotilla route map

Our Nafplion Flotilla runs from our Porto Heli Beach Club. It’s a cruise with some incredible, cultural stopovers around the sheltered waters of the Argolic gulf. We’ll visit ancient Greek landmarks and give you the opportunity to explore archaeological sites as well as the finest clear water bays and sandy beaches in the area; whilst getting lots of great sailing in too.

Our cruise will give you a taste of classical Greece as we visit cultural highpoints, like the caves at Franchthi, (the oldest human dwelling in the world); the ancient city of Nafplion with its intense Medieval atmosphere; and Kaparissi, dubbed one of the ‘Most Beautiful Villages of Greece’.

We’ll cover some decent mileage with a mix of longer sailing days and shorter days so you have time to enjoy the stops, which range from buzzing towns to tranquil Greek harbours with crystal clear swimming. Why not try our Flexi Flotilla which allows you to drop in and out of our flotilla for meals ashore and kids fun and games.

Arrival day

Our flotilla starts at our 4* Beach Club in Porto Heli. It’s a 2hr 30min transfer from Athens airport, but it’s worth it! On arrival at our club, you will meet our yacht team and be introduced to your yacht.

After we show you around the systems onboard your yacht, it will be time to unpack and get acquainted with your new home before going for a drink and a meal ashore; and a chance to meet the other flotilla sailors. Early arrivals will enjoy making use of our Beach Club bar and pool, or our private beach which is next to the yacht pontoon. You may also take some time to provision for your week in Heli’s many grocery stores.

Day 1: Porto Heli to Kilada

  • 12-13 Nautical miles
  • 3-4 hours sailing
  • Visit the prehistoric Cave of Franchthi

Anchor on Spetses for a lunchtime swim as you sail across to Kilada. On arrival, you can visit the prehistoric Caves of Franchthi which are nearby. Reported to be the oldest human dwelling in the world, they date back to the Mesolithic period.

We will have a group meal ashore and some family fun and games. Our welcome punch party is a high point of the evening.

Day 2: Kilada to Nafplion

  • 19-20 Nautical Miles
  • 5-6 hours sailing
  • A culturally rich town with medieval architecture

Nafplion is a culturally rich place and has an intense Medieval atmosphere, so it’s well worth the sail. A walk around the narrow paved streets of the Old Town is like a trip to the past. If you get there for early afternoon, then you’ll get just about enough time to jump in a taxi to visit the Archaeological Site of Mycenae.

We will enjoy another meal ashore and our sailing quiz night at the bar beforehand is a fun evening.

Day 3: Nafplion to Astros

  • 10-11 Nautical Miles
  • 2-3 hours sailing
  • Beautiful beaches and great for walking

It’s a short sail over to Astros so you can spend time in Nafplion, if you choose. But Astros too, is worth spending time in. This calm harbour town has lovely beaches, lots of walking and a castle above the port to explore, dating back to 1256. As usual, our lead crew will be there when you arrive to help you moor up. Enjoy a waterside taverna for dinner and watch the kite surfers in the evening breeze.

Day 4: Astros to Tyros

  • 12 Nautical Miles
  • 3 hours sailing
  • Stunning and quaint waterside village

Tyros is another shortish sail, and a very pretty waterside village awaits the flotilla on arrival. There’s gorgeous beaches, awarded their blue flag for cleanliness, waterside cafes and fresh fish restaurants are something of a specialty.

Day 5 Tyros to Kyparissi

  • 18-19 Nautical miles
  • 5+ hours sailing
  • Featured in: ‘The Most Beautiful Villages of Greece’

We had to have this stop on our itinerary! Rated highly in the book ‘The Most Beautiful Villages of Greece’, Kyparissi is a favourite destination of George H Bush and Prince Charles to name a few. Certainly one of the prettiest villages in Greece, the tourist hordes have not affected Kyparissi because of the difficulties in getting across huge mountain peaks to get there. So unless you have a yak, a yacht or a helicopter - you’re going to find it a challenge to say the least!

Day 6: Kyparissi to Porto Heli

  • 21 Nautical miles
  • 6 hours sailing
  • Lunchtime anchorages on the way

It’s a great sail back to Porto heli and Spetses provides a lovely swimming anchorage before you head back into harbour. We like to get back to our Beach Club marina for around 5 pm so you can refuel (our lead crew will help you to do this) before mooring up in the tranquillity of Porto Heli. Soon after you moor up, we’ll be aboard to let you know about your travel plans for the following day. We then like to gather ashore for a farewell drink and awards ceremony in our Beach Club bar.

If you’re staying for two weeks on flotilla, then you can either free-sail through changeover day or spend the day enjoying some inclusive watersports or mountain biking at our Porto Heli Beach Club.

If you choose to free-sail to another island, you can arrange to hook up with the flotilla again, after our leadboat has welcomed the new arrivals.
