International Certificate of Competence (ICC)

If you’ve already sailed for years, but have no official qualification, then this assessment and certificate will enable you to charter yachts in Greece. The ICC is a test of competence and an internationally recognised qualification, it is required by many European countries in order to charter a yacht and once you have it, it is valid for five years.

The ICC is generally a half day assessment which candidates can complete at a local RYA Training Centre in the UK. It must be completed before your Yacht Charter starts.

ICC Weekend: 1 or 2 days

Weekends available: May 5th & 6th | May 12th & 13th

Two days

Per person

Two persons (discounted rate)

 Please call 0844 770 40 70 for availability.

*Members of the RYA have no charge for the certificate

ICC course content and syllabus is viewable here.

Price includes: Two half days sailing aboard school yacht (35-38 foot Bavaria or similar): One day Brush Up session and one day Assessment day. The certificate cost is extra.

Taking your ICC assessment with us

We are offering an ICC assessment weekend with our own instructor and a chance to meet some of the team for a special guest-only price of £150 per person*. Based in Plymouth marina and running across fixed dates in May and June, you can choose to join us for one or two days. Candidates preferring to miss the Brush Up Day can join us on day two and go straight into the Assessment Day.

This assessment is ideal for sailors with experience up to Day Skipper standard, but no formal qualifications. Your ICC (once awarded) will be valid for five years.

Day 1 Brush Up Day:

An informal practical half-day of sailing with George, our Flotilla skipper and yacht cruising instructor. George will run through likely assessment areas whilst having a few hours aboard for some social sailing. At the very least a great day out and chance to meet a key team member!

Day 2 Assessment Day:

A Yacht examiner will step aboard for day two and the group (4-5 candidates max) will each take turns to demonstrate their core competency and answer some theory questions. The standard that candidates need to be in order to pass an ICC is at Day Skipper or Coastal Skipper level.

Hotels, staying on board and extra info

Candidates can choose to sleep aboard the yacht or in a local hotel, (hotel not included). All you need extra is a set of foulies and your food and drink.

Taking part in our assessment weekend (or one of the days) is not a guarantee that you will pass, and we cannot offer a refund on the day or yacht booking for those that do not pass.

*This is a limited first-come-first-served offer. This special guest-only price is only for Ocean Elements Yacht clients who have booked between Jan 1st and May 1st 2017
