RYA First Flight Course

What You’ll Learn

This is the first course in the RYA SailFoil scheme, providing you with a basic introduction to foiling. This 2-3 hour lesson is an introductory foiling course and gives you a taster at sailing the RS Aero adapted for use with Glidefree foils.

To join in the fun, you just need to be an intermediate level sailor, capable of reaching a Laser whilst keeping the boat flat. If you have completed the RYA level 2 sailing course, this is a good indication of the level required.

About the First Flight Course

We like to run these sessions in small groups of up to four pupils (to one instructor) where we can because group learning is the fastest way to learn. Take it in turns to experience our foiling Aero and share ideas and tips with each other.

Your instructor will be in a support RIB nearby and you will be connected to the instructor by a Bluetooth headset. Impact vests, helmets and headsets supplied.

This course is run as a two-hour session, but can be three hours if there are more than two pupils.

Session Format (2-3 hrs)

Short introduction to the boat and foiling (onshore)
Tuition detailing the basic techniques required for foiling
How the boat works and how the foils are controlled
Safety briefing
On water group lesson (max. 4 pupils). The course will lengthen with 4 pupils as we give everyone enough time on the boat

What You’ll Learn

This 16-hour course is generally run over two full days. This course is designed to increase your confidence and ability to handle a foil and maintain control. You will start to feel more confident in techniques to steer and sustain foiling effectively. Assumed ability on starting this course will be of First Flights or above.

About the Sustained Flight Course

To join in, you need to be an intermediate level sailor, having completed our First Flight course, (you’ll get a 50% refund off this course if taken with us). Capable of reaching a Laser whilst keeping the boat flat. If you have completed the RYA level 2 sailing course, this is a good indication of the level required.

Your instructor will be in a support RIB nearby and you will be connected to the instructor by a Bluetooth headset. Impact vests, helmets and headsets supplied.

After completion of the course, our RYA instructor will issue you with an RYA Sustained Flight course certificate.

Pre-booking in advance is advisable. We have limited space with only two RS Aeros adapted for use with Glidefree foils at our Porto Heli centre with dedicated RIB boat and instructor.
