Windsurfing Intermediate Non-Planing

If you’ve done a little windsurfing before, then you’re going to love our Beach Clubs, they’re all very well suited for intermediates, with great conditions for fast progression. If you can already windsurf then there’s no need to join a lesson (unless you want to), but you might like to take part in our complimentary refresher session to get your sea legs back.

You can free-sail any of our great kit when you want to. Simply choose a board, let the beach team know and head out into our sailing area. Our water sports centre is open each day from 9.30am until the last guest comes off the water and it’ll remain open over lunch, so you can windsurf non-stop if you really want!

If you’d like to develop your skills, then try one of our RYA courses and we’ll send you home a confident windsurfer. We run our ‘Fast Forward’ coaching technique with a maximum of 6 students to each group and for a guest-special price of £79, (8-10 hours tuition), so they’re great value at only £7.90 an hour.

What you’ll learn

Like all our courses, Level 2 is run by our own expert team of British RYA instructors and follows our ‘Fast Forward’ coaching techniques. By the end of it you'll be a competent windsurfer and be able to sail on all points in stronger winds, using beachstarts and faster tacking and gybing.

Level 2 is spread over 2 to 4 days (8-10 hours tuition) with lots of opportunities to free-sail and practice in between. You should easily come away with your RYA Level 2 Non-Planing certificate. Courses are for ages 14+. Under 13’s can join our free kid's club (5 days) with sailing and windsurf tasters; 8-12’s can join our Youth Squad for dedicated tuition.

What’s the course like?

Level 2 Windsurfing is an exciting course, easy for all fitness levels (young and old) and our instructors make it fun and sociable. You’ll quickly develop your windsurfing with Ocean Elements’ ‘Fast Forward’ coaching techniques and small group sizes as we get you ready for blasting control!

We run the course in late mornings or early afternoon. It is designed to impart a more advanced knowledge of windsurfing with refined techniques and to build your confidence in a wider range of wind conditions.. New techniques such as the beachstart and harness work will get you ready for the excitement of blasting control and PLANING which is taught in Level 3. Beachstarts and gybing are taught either as a separate clinic or within this course if time allows.

Top notch instructors

Over the last ten years, we’ve taught thousands of guests to learn to windsurf and sail. It’s our energetic, top notch team of British RYA instructors that make it all so great! They run sociable group learning sessions with a priority on fast progression and fun, using the Ocean Elements ‘Fast Forward’ learning principles. All our centres have the right conditions and kit to enable fast progression and we love teaching people to sail. After all, it’s what we do best and perhaps why we scored 98% ‘Excellent’ from our client surveys from 2018.

We pick our staff for their friendly and outgoing natures and they’re always on hand to help you rig up, get launched and teach you some tips - whether you’re in, or outside of a lesson. They love to share the knowledge and talk about their favourite subject.

Where’s best for Intermediates?

All our Beach Clubs offer excellent conditions for Intermediate windsurfers, where reliable winds and warm waters (along with expert tuition on tap) help to quicken the learning curve.

Learning has never been easier with our latest generation of wide and stable Improver boards with a full range of lightweight sails and rigs. All our centres have plenty of great Intermediate kit and the wind conditions (in all centres) are perfect for this level.

Surf Hotel in Vassiliki our Specialist Windsurf Centre and has the greatest range of kit and tuition. But all our centres are ideal for Intermediates, especially Hotel Leda in Horto-Pelion and Akti Beach in Kos.

The Best Equipment

You’ll find all the kit you could ever need in our well-stocked centres. All our Beach Clubs have a full range of kit, for all levels up to advanced and it has been selected to suit the local conditions.

We use leading brands like Starboard, Tushingham and Severne and have all types of board from super-stable beginner boards, easy going free-ride boards, to high-performance race, freestyle and wave boards, which are very current. Just bring your board shorts and a rash vest. We’ll supply the rest.

Private tuition

Our holidays include enough tuition to get you started. However, you may prefer some extra, more focussed, private tuition to take alongside (or instead of) a full RYA course. ‘Privates’, as we call them, will help you focus on a specific technique – from nailing your first turn as a beginner, or more progressive skills like beachstarts or carve gybes. Privates start at £34 per hour with support boat cover.

What to wear and bring

  • Wear shorts you can get wet
  • Wear a quick dry T-shirt or Rash Vest (can buy these locally from us)
  • Do wear sunglasses (can buy an elasticated band, locally from us)
  • Do wear plenty of sun cream
  • Some sailors wear a sun hat or cap for extra protection.
  • No need for wetsuits - the water is very warm - even in May!
  • We supply buoyancy aids and helmets for kids
Top tip:

We sell sailing gloves, rash vests, quick dry T-Shirts, sunglasses bands at all our centres

Fantastic Holiday!

“The hotel is right on the beach and has its own sunbeds for guest use. The main reason for going was the sailing and we have nothing but praise for the Ocean Elements staff, right from airport pickup they were friendly and helpful. The watersports on offer were varied and whilst there was always someone there to assist - we never felt we pushed into anything.

The intention was for my husband to attend the RYA Level 1 course and for me to sunbathe and read books. Once I saw the setup and felt the genuine enthusiasm of all the staff, I decided to have a go as well. I am a large lady with no previous experience but the staff never made me feel uncomfortable and were always encouraging and full of praise.

Thanks in particular to Tom and Josh for getting me through my Level 1. We’ll definitely be back next year for level 2 !!”
