Vassiliki Stay Sail

Stay at our Surf Hotel Beach Club and enjoy a week of inclusive activities, kids clubs and watersports before you take to your yacht and cruise the magical Ionian islands.

We get all types of sailor joining our Vassiliki Stay Sails, from experienced Bareboaters and seasoned Flotilla sailors to beginner yacht skippers with little or no prior experience. So, if you’ve ever thought that skippering your own yacht is out of reach, then think again. You can get trained in a week on our tuition yacht, or book your own personal instructor. Either way, you’ll be surprised at how quickly you pick things up before you join our friendly flotilla in week two, to put into practice your newfound skills

Surf Hotel Beach Club

Our flagship Beach Club nestles on the sand of one of the finest watersports beaches in Greece, the famous surf-inspired resort of Vassiliki.

Spend week one getting trained to skipper your own yacht, or, if you can already sail, just relax and enjoy the facilities. Get the kids hooked on sailing, brush up your own dinghy and windsurf skills or just hit the sun lounger... hard!

Then, for week two you can get-away-from-it-all aboard your yacht and explore new islands and clearwater anchorages each day. The Ionians are a sailing nirvana and our MD’s favourite place to cruise with his family.

All-Inclusive Activities

Vassiliki is a mecca for water sports enthusiasts, young and old. It enjoys reliable thermal winds for all levels, which deliver gentle conditions in the morning and more exciting sailing and windsurfing in the afternoon. Our racks are stocked with more windsurf kit, dinghies and paddlesports equipment than you can shake a kayak paddle at. And our inclusive tuition suits beginner to advanced sailor.

We also have a top-notch fleet of Specialized bikes for you to use, daily Beach Fitness classes and young kids will love our Active Clubs and 8-year-olds and up will excel in our Youth Squad for sailing and windsurfing.

Sailing experience needed

We get a variety of skippers joining our Vassiliki Stay Sails. From expert Bareboaters looking for a relaxing Ionian island cruise, to flotilla enthusiasts who enjoy sailing in company; and our beginner skippers getting trained for the first time.

If you’re a beginner and you’ve always wanted to skipper your own yacht, then now’s your chance. You don’t need any experience to join our Flotilla Skippers’ course on a Stay Sail in Vassiliki. It’s 5 days of practical training and we’ll prepare you with the skills needed to skipper your own yacht in week two. You’ll complete the course with an International Yacht Training qualification. And it’s a lifetime qualification to use worldwide for chartering.

If you are not taking our course then you’ll need to have a certificate to prove your skills, like the International Flotilla Skipper or Bareboat Skipper, or the RYA Day Skipper, RYA Keelboat or ICC qualification.

Try some Yacht training

Our Vassiliki Stay Sails are perfect for beginner skippers and crew to get trained while their families relax back at club. Or you can book the tuition yacht privately (for up to 5 pupils) and get trained together (ages 14+) with your own personal instructor.

Choose to liveaboard or stay at the Surf hotel and join the tuition yacht each day. You’ll be surprised at how quickly you pick things up during this practical, hands-on course where the family can get trained together on our International Crew Training, Flotilla and Bareboat Skippers’ courses. You’ll get to go home with a lifetime qualification for using on yacht charter worldwide.

What to expect

We’ll meet you at Preveza airport and it’s a 1-hour transfer to the Surf Hotel Beach Club. You’ll arrive around lunchtime (for our charters) and be able to relax, try some watersports or just chill at the pool bar and plan your first week of activities and sign up to our socials, kids clubs, fitness classes, paddle cruises, Sailaways and RYA courses for dinghy and windsurfing.

If you’re taking some yacht training, you’ll join our teaching yacht at 9am on Monday with up to 4 other pupils. So relax and enjoy the hotel facilities on arrival day. After your 5 days of training, you’ll spend your last days - your 6th and 7th days - at the club before joining your yacht in the afternoon.

If you’re not training then you’ll have all week to enjoy the activities and relax at our club, get the kids hooked on sailing and hit the sun loungers...hard!

On changeover day, our yachts are moored at Lefkas marina, (a 30 min transfer), and you can move aboard in the late afternoon; so until then, kick back and enjoy the hotel and watersports facilities right up until you leave.

Our leadboat crew will meet you at the marina and tell you about the week’s plans and run through the yacht's systems and controls before a more indepth skippers briefing over breakfast at the marina cafe the next day.

Our yachts

Choose a yacht and give us a call, so we can give you an up-to-date price for a Stay Sail. Your yacht will be your home for a week (or two) and it’s kitted with everything you need, from a swim platform and paddleboard to the kitchen sink.

Most yachts have three double sleeping cabins and will sleep up to eight people, (using the double saloon berth), but for comfort we recommend you don’t fill them to the max. You’ll have a bathroom (or two) with showers and heads (that’s a loo!) and a well-equipped galley (or kitchen) with a sociable cockpit to enjoy alfresco dining. Every yacht is fully prepared for you arrival. You just need to provision for food and drink.

Wind, weather and conditions

The wind force is generally between 1-3 (4-10 Knots) in the mornings and force 3-4 (7-15 knots) in the afternoons, between May and October. Every day tends to start the same with a very gentle morning and more exciting, but very manageable winds after lunch. Our South Ionian route is very sheltered and has shorter distances, (10-15nm each day), but always the opportunity to extend your sailing.

Our northern route has longer distances (12-20nm and an option to do a 30 miler) and you will be sailing in more open water. Both routes have line-of-sight navigation which requires basic knowledge of charts and an understanding of how to sail in open water.

Both routes are within the capabilities of our newly qualified International (IYT) Flotilla Skippers, or RYA Day Skippers, Keelboat skippers with little experience. The Northern route is preferred by more adventurous beginner skippers with families used to sailing, and open water.

Temperatures reach 32 to 36 degrees in July and August, with little to no rain. Expect warm nights and little need for much in the way of warm clothing.
