Family Sailing Holidays

We pride ourselves on being a big hit with families, so it’s understandable that our yacht flotillas and Beach Clubs attract lots of children during the school holidays. A holiday in the Greek islands offers sheltered sailing and calm conditions so you can enjoy fair winds, calm anchorages and get the family hooked on sailing. It’s the perfect environment for families to relax, sunbathe and paddleboard or snorkel in a new clearwater anchorage each day.

Our expert yacht team is always close to hand to help make it a relaxing holiday and to organise evening socials with kids fun and games to keep them busy.

Idyllic conditions

The Ionians offer some of the least challenging sailing in the Med’, with just the right amount of wind in the afternoons to promise a decent sail. It’s perfect for beginner skippers to learn the ropes with our expert yacht team always close by; and for expert skippers to enjoy a relaxing break where the route planning and mooring up is taken care of each day.

Families will enjoy the reliable weather which follows the same pattern each day. The mornings are always calm, ideal for enjoying a pre-breakfast paddleboard or a swim before setting off to your lunchtime anchorage. Enjoy a sail in the afternoon as the thermal winds build slowly to offer very manageable family sailing so mum and dad can get their sailing fix before meeting up with the flotilla at a new island stopover.

Yacht Sailing with kids

Yacht sailing around the Ionians is a lot of fun for the family. Kids love living aboard, swimming in warm, clear water at every opportunity, playing around on paddleboards and getting acquainted with sailing: winding the winches, organising your ropes and even steering the boat, (which is why twin helms are great). Then there’s fishing and paddle boarding at virtually every new stopover… You could entertain them for weeks on a yacht and they’ll remember it for years to come.

Try a Stay & Sail holiday: Fun for everyone!

The perfect twin centre break: A week at our award-winning Beach Club followed by a week aboard your yacht. A Stay Sail holiday has everyone’s interests covered: your kids can get hooked on sailing in our Active Clubs and our crack team of RYA instructors will have you developing your dinghy or windsurfing skills in no time. If you fancy some time on dry land, why not try a Beach Fitness class... a guided bike ride...or just hit the sunlounger...hard!

You can even get your Day Skipper qualification in the first week on our Beach Club tuition yacht, enabling you to combine it with a second week on our flotilla, or bareboating.

MORE ON STAY SAILS

Flotilla fun and games

Our flotillas attract lots of families with kids of all ages in the school holidays. We try to make sure that your kids are mixing together and our evening entertainment includes pre-dinner games and socials like our popular egg drop contest and junk model boat racing or sailing quizzes to test mum and dad.

Our flotilla hosts love to organise more active pursuits like paddleboard cruises to nearby caves, family walks or beach parties ashore while we ‘wild night’ it at anchor.

Getting qualified to sail...with the Kids!

If you’d like to learn to sail or get qualified to skipper a yacht with your children then why not book our training yacht and instructor for private hire? We can teach Competent Crew and Day Skipper courses together with our Youth Sailing courses (from ages 10+) on the same tuition yacht. It’s great when families can learn together.

We recommend kids are at least 10-12 years old and big enough to operate the yacht deck gear. If you are worried that they may not be able to take part in all aspects of sailing then please don’t! They will either be awarded the Competent Crew or a Start Sailing Certificate for younger sailors. At this age, it’s the experience and the taking part that counts.

The yacht will take up to 5 crew and the instructor. If you live aboard the yacht, then your instructor will need a cabin; or he can sleep aboard our lead boat when following the flotilla to give you some privacy.
