Dinghy Sailing for Intermediates

Inclusive tuition

Dinghy Sailing lessons for Improvers and Intermediates are included in our holidays. They’re run by our own team of expert RYA instructors and designed to help you make the most out of the warm waters and reliable thermal winds that keep our guests coming back every year.

Our inclusive daily lessons for Improvers will generally take place in the mornings and cover ‘Basic Skills’ like better boat handling, tacking, gybing, capsize techniques, rigging, launching and safety. They run 5 days a week for 1 to 1.5 hours a session and will teach you lots of key skills to help make you a more confident light winds sailor

As well as our free daily lessons - you can top-up with an RYA course (Levels 1-4) which will give you even more focussed tuition and an internationally recognised RYA Level 2 qualification by the end of your course. From only £79 for 10-12 hours of tuition we reckon they’re pretty good value at only £7.90 an hour!

More on Tuition

RYA Level 2 'Basic Skills' Course

  • RYA Level 2 course – £79
  • 10-12 hours tuition* over 2-4 days
  • That's equivalent to £7.90 per hr!
  • Available: at all centres
  • Ocean Elements ‘Fast Forward’ Learning groups
  • Small group sizes: (6 students max)
  • Book before you depart or on arrival
  • Ability after the course: A confident light wind sailor

If you would like some more focussed tuition during your week, (to add to our daily programme of free tuition), and work towards a level of the RYA syllabus, this course could be for you. These courses run in smaller group sizes and follow the Ocean Elements Fast Forward coaching technique. Afterwards, you’ll have earned a new RYA Level 2 sailing qualification and made some great sailing friends along the way.

it’s a very practical course and almost all of it is enjoyed on-the-water. We’ll cover all the essential skills to a greater level: like better boat handling, tacking, gybing, capsize techniques, rigging, launching and safety. We also provide a short introduction to more advanced techniques like sailing with spinnakers and trapezing. Courses are for ages 14+. Under 13's can join our free kid's club for sailing and windsurfing tasters. The 8-13’s can try our Youth Squad for the same level of tuition.

What's the course like?

Level 2 Dinghy Sailing is an exciting course and as an Improving sailor you can really make the most out of our local sailing area. Our instructors make the learning curve fast and enjoyable using our ‘Fast Forward’ coaching techniques with small group sizes (6 students max). It’s all very sociable, hugely rewarding and the emphasis is on fun and manageable progression.

We normally run the course mid-morning after our free daily sessions have completed, so you can take part in all of our available (free) tuition groups, if you choose. And why not? They will maximise the learning and are very enjoyable!

After a short session of shore-based training using a simulator to refresh you with boat controls, it’s out on the water with your instructor where the excitement begins. Our support boats are always close by, the winds will be light and manageable and you’ll be in your own single handed boat. Boats like a Pico or a Laser with modern and up-to-date rigs and controls which boosts learning and makes sailing more satisfying.

After your course, you’ll be a confident light winds sailor and have earned your RYA Level 2 ‘Basic Skills’ Dinghy Sailing’ certificate. If you’re staying for two weeks, then why not try two RYA levels?

Dinghy Racing

Join in with our fun and light-hearted dinghy races which are held most days during the week. We’ll give a short introduction to the world of racing so that you can take part in our events with tips on starting, finishing, tactics and the basic rules of racing.

Our racing is aimed at all levels and we generally run daily races for class boats like the Laser fleet, and handicap racing for mixed fleets. It’s all about taking part and having fun, (with prizes too!), and a great chance to show us your competitive side!

Available all centres

Dinghy Cruising

Discover the adventurous world of dinghy cruising whilst on holiday with us. We will offer you the opportunity to take part in our dinghy cruises and enjoy the feeling of longer-distance sailing as you cruise in company to a nearby island or ‘secret-beach’ stopover with instructors and RIB support boats to guide the flotilla.

Dinghy cruises generally take place at the middle of the week and they involve all craft from single and double handed boats to family boats with a few crew. So choose your vessel and pick your crew, sign up and get involved!

You will learn about cruise planning, safety and basic navigation along with long distance sailing skills to give you a taste for this truly inspirational past-time. The flotilla will often cruise to another island for a mid-morning stop over, to enjoy a swim or a coffee and ice cream.

Available in all our centres: Half to 3/4 day.

Where's best for Improvers?

All our resorts offer perfect conditions for Improver sailors. The thermal winds are very reliable, easy and manageable, and the water is warm and clear! Add to the mix our own expert instructors and you’ll have a brilliant time with a satisfyingly quick learning curve.

Our free daily ‘Improver’ lessons take place in the mornings, allowing you to either free-sail our boats for the rest of your day or join one of our excellent RYA Level 2 courses to further your progression. You’ll get lots out of them and also meet some other sailing guests to share stories with, preferably in the bar afterwards!

Learning has never been easier with our Ocean Elements ‘Fast Forward’ coaching techniques and modern and up-to-date boats in all our centres. We keep them in top shape because good kit helps you understand the theory and makes the sailing more satisfying.

The hotel Nautica Bay in Porto Heli. is our specialist dinghy sailing centre and has the greatest range of kit. But all our centres are ideal for Improvers, especially Surf Hotel in Vassiliki which is similarly well-stocked and has great conditions. Not too windy in the mornings, and very manageable for most of the day.

The very best RYA Instructors

Over the last ten years, we’ve taught thousands of guests to learn and progress at their windsurfing and sailing. It’s our energetic, top-notch team of British RYA instructors that make it all so great! They run sociable learning groups using the Ocean Elements ‘Fast Forward’ learning principles. All our centres have the right conditions and kit to help you progress and we love teaching people to sail. Perhaps that’s why our instructors scored 98% ‘Excellent’ from our client surveys from 2018.

We pick our staff for their friendly and outgoing natures and they’re always on hand to help you rig up, get launched and teach you some tips - whether you’re in a lesson or not!

Fantastic Holiday!

“The hotel is right on the beach and has its own sunbeds. The main reason for going was the sailing and we have nothing but praise for the Ocean Elements staff, right from airport pickup they were friendly and helpful. The intention was for my husband to attend the RYA Level 1 course and for me to sunbathe and read books. Once I saw the setup and felt the genuine enthusiasm of all the staff, I decided to have a go as well. I am a large lady with no previous experience but the staff never made me feel uncomfortable and were always encouraging and full of praise.
