Dinghy Sailing for Advanced

Inclusive tuition

Dinghy Sailing lessons for Intermediates are included in our holidays. They’re run by our own team of British RYA instructors and designed to help you make the most out of the incredible sailing conditions at our Beach Clubs.

Our inclusive daily lessons for Intermediates will generally take place in the afternoons and cover ‘Better Sailing’ principles and boat handling. From progressive techniques in tacking, gybing and capsize recovery to rigging and launching; with an introduction to performance sailing and elements like racing, sailing with spinnakers and trapezes. They run 5 days a week for 1 to 1.5 hours a session and will teach you lots of key skills to help make you a more confident medium wind sailor

As well as our free daily lessons - you can top-up with an RYA course (Levels 1-4) which will give you even more focussed tuition and an internationally recognised RYA Level 3 qualification by the end of your course. From only £79 for 10-12 hours of tuition we reckon they’re pretty good value at only £7.90 an hour!

More on Tuition

RYA Level 3 'Better Sailing' Course

  • RYA Level 3 course – £79
  • 10-12 hours tuition* over 2-4 days
  • That's equivalent to £7.90 per hr!
  • Available: at all centres
  • Ocean Elements ‘Fast Forward’ Learning groups
  • Small group sizes: (6 students max)
  • Book before you depart or on arrival
  • Ability after the course: A confident medium wind sailor

If you would like some more focussed tuition during your week, (to add to our daily programme of free tuition), and to learn about some progressive sailing techniques - this course could be for you. All our courses run in smaller group sizes and follow the Ocean Elements Fast Forward coaching technique. Afterwards, you’ll have earned a new RYA Level 3 sailing qualification and made some great sailing friends along the way.

‘Better Sailing’ is a very practical course and almost all of it is enjoyed on-the-water. We’ll look at all the core skills in greater depth: from tacking and gybing to capsize recovery, rigging and launching. We’ll also look at performance sailing and sailing with spinnakers and trapezes. The aim of this course is to make you a more confident medium wind sailor. For ages 14+. Under 13's can join our free kid's club for sailing and windsurfing tasters. The 8-13’s can try our excellent Youth Squad for the same level of tuition.

What's the course like?

Level 3 Dinghy Sailing is a progressive sailing course designed to make you into a confident medium winds sailor. Our instructors make the learning curve fast, safe and very enjoyable as you will be experiencing stronger winds in single handed boats. We use our Ocean Elements ‘Fast Forward’ coaching techniques to the max, with small group sizes (6 students). It’s a hugely rewarding time as you see your progression take off.

We normally run our ‘Better Sailing’ courses in the afternoon, after our free daily sessions have completed. Then you can take part in all of our available (free) tuition groups, if you choose. And why not? They will maximise the learning and are very enjoyable!

You will also get to experience performance sailing and advanced modules like spinnaker handling and trapezing. We’ll even cover an introduction to racing and the rules with starting techniques, if the group wishes. We’ll also look at rig tuning and boat set up so you can move onto our advanced modules next time. We use boats like the Laser Radial, Laser 1 and Hartley 12’s with modern and up-to-date rigs and controls to make the sailing great! We will also introduce you to performance skiffs like the RS 100 if time allows. Staying for two weeks? Then why not try your Level 4 as well?

Dinghy Racing

Join in with our fun and light-hearted dinghy races which are held most days during the week. We’ll give a short introduction to the world of racing so that you can take part in our events with tips on starting, finishing, tactics and the basic rules of racing.

Our racing is aimed at all levels and we generally run daily races for class boats like the Laser fleet, and handicap racing for mixed fleets. It’s all about taking part and having fun, (with prizes too!), and a great chance to show us your competitive side!

Available all centres

Dinghy Cruising

Discover the adventurous world of dinghy cruising whilst on holiday with us. We will offer you the opportunity to take part in our dinghy cruises and enjoy the feeling of longer-distance sailing as you cruise in company to a nearby island or ‘secret-beach’ stopover with instructors and RIB support boats to guide the flotilla.

DInghy cruises generally take place at the middle of the week and they involve all craft from single and double handed boats to family boats with a few crew. So choose your vessel and pick your crew, sign up and get involved!

You will learn about cruise planning, safety and basic navigation along with long distance sailing skills to give you a taste for this truly inspirational past-time. The flotilla will often cruise to another island for a mid-morning stop over, to enjoy a swim or a coffee and ice cream.

Available in all our centres: Half to 3/4 day.

Where's best for Intermediates?

All our resorts offer perfect conditions for Intermediate sailors where the thermal wind switches on like clockwork every afternoon! And we’ve put in our usual formula of epicness into every centre! That’s great instructors, the best dinghies (including performance boats) and some of the best teaching standards in the Med’ - where the reliable conditions help boost your sailing enjoyment and progression.

Our free daily ‘Better Sailing’ lessons take place in the early afternoons, allowing you to join one of our excellent RYA Level 3 courses to further your progression. They give a bit more focussed tuition and you’ll get lots out of them and also meet some great sailing buddies along the way!

Learning has never been easier with our Ocean Elements ‘Fast Forward’ coaching techniques and modern and up-to-date boats in all our centres. We keep them in top shape because good kit helps you understand the theory and makes the sailing more satisfying.

The hotel Nautica Bay in Porto Heli. is our specialist dinghy sailing centre and has the greatest range of kit. But all our centres are ideal for Intermediates, especially Surf Hotel in Vassiliki which is similarly well-stocked and Akti Beach in Kos.

The very best RYA Instructors

Over the last ten years, we’ve taught thousands of guests to learn to windsurf and sail. It’s our energetic, top-notch team of British RYA instructors that make it all so great! They run sociable learning groups using the Ocean Elements ‘Fast Forward’ learning principles. All our centres have the right conditions and kit to help you progress and we love teaching people to sail. Perhaps that’s why our instructors scored 98% ‘Excellent’ from our client surveys from 2018.

We pick our staff for their friendly and outgoing natures and they’re always on hand to help you rig up, get launched and teach you some tips - whether you’re in a lesson or not.

Fantastic Holiday!

“The hotel is right on the beach and has its own sunbeds. The main reason for going was the sailing and we have nothing but praise for the Ocean Elements staff, right from airport pickup they were friendly and helpful. The intention was for my husband to attend the RYA Level 1 course and for me to sunbathe and read books. Once I saw the setup and felt the genuine enthusiasm of all the staff, I decided to have a go as well. I am a large lady with no previous experience but the staff never made me feel uncomfortable and were always encouraging and full of praise.
