Wind, weather and sailing conditions

Porto Heli

  • Morning Wind Force 1-3 (4-10 Knots)
  • Afternoon Wind Force  3-4 (7-16 knots)

Porto Heli is the perfect sailing centre. You can expect a light breeze each morning, which is perfect for families and kids learning to sail or windsurf with our excellent team of RYA instructors. In the morning calm, we also like to organise kayak and paddleboard cruises; spinnaker clinics and navigation clinics for our SailAway dinghy cruising. The mornings are also a great time to introduce intermediates to the art of SailFoiling.

Around lunchtime the wind builds to a Force 2-3 breeze and often to a Force 4+ by the afternoon. Ideal conditions for all levels of sailor to have fun and for the intermediate windsurfers to have a good session on our range of more advanced boards. Often, the Meltemi can override this pattern and provide stronger winds in the late afternoon. The enclosed nature of the bay and our excellent team of instructors offers safe and secure sailing and windsurfing for all levels.

There will be plenty of time to top up your tan with temperatures reaching 32 to 36 degrees in July and August, with little to no rain. Expect warm nights and living in your swimming costume with little need for much in the way of warm clothing.

Kos

  • Morning Wind Force 1-3 (4-10 Knots)
  • Afternoon Wind Force  4-6 (7-20 knots)
  • Occasionally Force 7 (Great for expert windsurfers)

Kos is a great destination if you like exhilarating sailing and windsurfing. Most days start the same: the mornings generally ease in with a gentle on-shore Force 1-2 breeze and calm water, before the thermal winds build around late morning.

Mornings are the perfect time for families, beginners and improvers learning to windsurf and sail and is when we run our inclusive RYA sailing and windsurfing courses and technique clinics, like sailing with spinnakers or an introduction to Wind Foiling. It’s also a good time to go paddleboarding, kayaking and water skiing or for the experts to try out new kit and moves.

Normally, the thermal wind builds around lunchtime and offers exciting sailing and windsurfing for intermediates. Our formula of top-notch equipment and expert RYA instructors will ensure most sailors (intermediate and up) can continue sailing all afternoon.
