Kalamos Route

Our two-week Flotilla cruise takes in the best of the southern Ionian, including the magical islands of Kalamos, Meganisi, Ithaca and Cephalonia. Our two week cruise will follow our Ithaca route before cruising the Kalamos route in week two.

At a glance

Our two week South Ionian cruise includes our Ithaca route (week one) before following this Kalamos route for week two. Join us on our Ocean Elements flotilla or try our Flexi Flotilla (a mix of bareboat and flotilla) as we tour around the most beautiful islands and anchorages of this idyllic coastline.

The following route is a guide and our lead crew may make changes to stopovers to suit the prevailing conditions. You can also stop over at our Beach Club in Vassiliki for a complimentary day of water sports, mountain biking, fitness clubs and kids clubs to spice up your week even more.

Arrival day

After a short, 30 minute transfer from Preveza airport, you will arrive at Lefkas marina where you will meet our Ocean Elements crew and be introduced to your yacht. After a short briefing to show you the systems on the boat, it will be time to unpack and get acquainted with your new home before going for a drink and a meal ashore and a chance to meet the other flotilla sailors. Early arrivals will enjoy making use of the marina hotel pool and provisioning for the week at Lefkadas many grocery stores.

Day 1: Lefkas to Spartochori

  • 12-13 miles
  • 3-4 hours sailing
  • A full day of sailing with lunchtime anchorage

After a skippers briefing at the marina cafe (over breakfast) on Monday morning to run through the week’s plans and some technical advice on mooring, anchoring, safety and seamanship, the crew will help you cast off. It’s an easy 12-mile sail south to the pretty bay of Spartochori for a group meal ashore in the welcoming tavernas. On the way down, you can anchor in one of many bays for a lunchtime swim.

If you’re a little rusty on experience - or a beginner skipper - then our lead crew will help you set off and they’ll even be at Spartochori ready for your arrival and to help you moor up.

Day 2: Spartochori to Kalamos

  • 13-14 miles
  • 3-4 hours sailing
  • A full day of sailing with lunchtime anchorage

The tiny village and harbour of Episkopi are a charming insight into rural Greek island living. Here you will enjoy this bustling little harbour and its tavernas. It’s a great sail there, and in the evening come and join us for a welcome punch party and a group meal if you choose. Your brilliant flotilla hosts will likely be organising sailing-style games for the kids (and adults) or a quiz at the party. It’s a great chance to get to know the other sailors and enjoy a drink (of punch) on us!

Day 3: Kalamos to Vathi (Ithaca)

  • 18-19 miles
  • 5 hours sailing
  • A full day of sailing with lunchtime anchorage

The sail to Ithaca is a lovely 18+ mile southerly leg with easy line-of-sight sailing and scenery all the way. Much of the route is a fast and enjoyable fetch in the predominant wind conditions.

Try the lovely anchorage at One House bay which extends the mileage by 1-2 miles and enjoy a stunning clear water bay for swimming and lunch. Vathi is a quaint and small village on Ithaca with a lovely sheltered harbour and lots of welcoming tavernas.

Enjoy Paddleboarding and swimming off the rafted yachts and another group meal in a beach-side Taverna which fronts onto the water. Idyllic!

Day 4: Vathi to Vassiliki (Freesail day)

  • 16 miles
  • 3-4 hours sailing
  • Visit the Surf Hotel with us or freesail

Thursday is an optional Freesail day. Our lead boat will head straight to Vassiliki and it is your chance to either join them in Vass' and perhaps take part in some complimentary water sports at our Surf hotel; or just relax by the pool and let the kids have fun!

Alternatively, you may cruise elsewhere and explore other islands on your own. Vassiliki is one of Europe's best windsurfing and dinghy sailing venues, ideal for beginners and experts with active clubs for your kids to enjoy. Vassiliki is a pretty harbour town, buzzing with life and a cool surf-style vibe.

Day 5: Vassiliki to Meganisi

  • 16 miles
  • 3-4 hours sailing
  • Visit the Surf Hotel with us or freesail

Whether you chose to visit Vassiliki, Fiscardo or another beautiful stopover for freesail day, the flotilla will meet up again on the gorgeous island of Meganissi; either in a harbour town called ‘Little-Vathi’ or in a bay around the corner for a night of swinging at anchor. Here, we will often have a beach party (or BBQ) ashore and enjoy a night at anchor in any number of stunning bays on Meganisi. We love spending nights at anchor, for a truly peaceful experience.

Day 6: Meganissi to Lefkas.

  • 10 miles
  • 3-4 hours sailing
  • A full day of sailing with lunchtime anchorage

Take a paddleboard ashore and enjoy a morning walk or a jog around the pretty coastline of Meganisi before setting off for Lefkas. There’s lots of anchorages on route for a lunchtime swim. You can lengthen the sail home by cruising around Skorpios, the famous island owned by the Onassis family. The final leg normally offers a more exciting sail as you beat home in the prevailing thermal winds.

We like to get back into Lefkas marina for around 4 pm so you can refuel (our lead crew will help you at the fuel jetty) before mooring up in the tranquillity of Lefkas marina. Soon after you moor up, we’ll be aboard to advise you of the next day’s travel plans. Then we like to gather ashore for a farewell drink and awards ceremony in the marina bar.

Day 7: Departure day (Sunday)

If you are on our charter flight, it’s not too early a start in the morning and you can enjoy a leisurely breakfast onboard or ashore at the marina cafes before our transfer coach comes to pick you up for the 30-minute ride to Preveza airport.

If you are on our two-week flotilla, Sunday is a great chance to get an extra day’s sailing and head back out from Lefkas for a freesail day before hooking up with the flotilla again on Monday. You can discuss Flexi Flotilla options with our lead crew so you can carry on sailing while we changeover the new arrivals.
