Kalamos Route

The choice of routes is weather dependent and will be decided upon by the flotilla crew. The Kalamos route takes us further East to the two islands of Kalamos and Kastos, as well as rounding the Southern coast of Lefkas to overnight in Vassiliki harbour. The other two ports are both on Meganissi, a beautiful island, with superb scenery and great flotilla cruising.

This is a guide itinerary

Average Resort Temps

Day 1: Sunday

Arrival day

Fly to Preveza airport, (Sunday), meet and greet by Ocean Elements staff, transfer to Lefkas Marina in Lefkada (45 mins). Provision in supermarkets around marina, early arrivals can have a drink, enjoy lunch at the many tavernas nearby.

1700-1800 Yacht handover and briefing on systems, sail contrails, deck gear and navigational aids. Enjoy dinner in the excellent Margherita restaurant which looks out over the water and our boats.

Day 2: Monday

Lefkas Marina to Spatochori. 14nm South of Lefkas Town.

On the island of Meganisi this quaint little town offers white washed buildings, markets, shops and a variety of Tavernas surrounded by a lush green Pine forest.

Day 3: Tuesday

Spatohori - Kalamos. North East of Kastos

The tiny village and harbour of Episkopi are a charming insight into rural Greek island living. Here we will have our beach BBQ.

(In the event of strong Northerly’s we will head to Porto Kalamos on the South of the island).

Day 4: Wednesday

Kalamos - Frikes 16nm. North East of Kastos.

The sail to Frikes is a lovely 16-mile southerly leg with easy line-of-sight sailing. Try the lovely anchorage at One House bay which extends the mileage by 2-3 miles and enjoy a stunning clear water bay for swimming and lunch. Frikes is a quaint and small village on Ithaca with many Australian-Greek locals speaking excellent English.

Ithaca is steeped in history relating to Odysseus, the king of Ithaca and is probably best known as the eponymous hero of the Odyssey. Kioni is another popular port, and an enjoyable coastal walk WNW of Frikes.

Once in Frikes, enjoy Paddleboarding and swimming off the rafted yachts. We often arrange a group meal in a beach-side Taverna which fronts onto the water. Idyllic!

Day 5: Thursday

Freesail day - Frikes to Vathi (suggested)

Whether you chose to visit Vassiliki, Vathi or another beautiful stopover for freesail day, we ask that the flotilla makes it's way to Meganissi, (coincidentally to another port called Vathi!), for Friday evening to re-join the lead boat again.

The busy little harbour side village of Meganissi offers some nightlife and well priced tavernas and our lead boat will be there to help you from 1600 onwards.

On your way to Meganisi try from any one of beautiful and secluded easy-holding anchorages for a lunch time swim, our lead crew will give you some tips.

On arrival, go and check out the submerged light aircraft which is a few metres from the shore. You can easily Paddleboard or walk over to it and see this mysterious sunken sea plane just inches from the surface.

Day 6: Friday

Vathi - Karnagio 20nm

The busy little harbour side village of Vassiliki is a pretty place to relax and has a pleasant surf-inspired vibe. Good nightlife and well prices tavernas.

Day 7: Saturday

Karnagio to Lefkas. 12nm.

After your stay on the beautiful island of Meganissi, return to Lefkas the next day for a decent sail and stop over for lunch time swimming at one of the many beautiful anchorages along the way.

Or, maybe sail around Skorpios, the famous island owned by the Onassis family since 1962, and recently sold to the daughter of the Russian businessman Dmitry Rybolovlev, for a reprted £100 million. At Lefkas our farewell evening meal is always fun!

Yachts often get back into Lefkas marina from 1500-1600 onwards, so that they can prepare for yacht hand back and relax before changeover day in the excellent facilities in Lefkas marina.

1500-1600 Yachts return and refuel

1630-1800 Handover of boats and deposits administrated

1830-1930 Final presentataion, farewells and prize giving!

2000 Social farewell meal for those that would like to join

Day 8: Sunday
