Stepping into the world of yacht sailing is an exciting time. Our practical sailing courses run in the Greek islands from our tuition yacht in the Ionians, which makes learning a lot more enjoyable. Where we train you

A key element is where we do it - Vassiliki is perfect for training aspiring skippers thanks to the local winds that make it famed as a world class water sports venue.

Here, budding skippers can practice new techniques in reassuringly light winds in the mornings, while building skills and understanding as the breeze increases to a force 4 to 5, with gusts in the afternoons. Therefore, after getting to grips with core techniques in a benign environment earlier in the day, our graduates also get to hone their skills while handling stronger winds. This is the biggest single challenge for new skippers and is invariably what marks out a truly competent sailor.

How to take a course

You can book onto our tuition yacht (as a solo, a couple or a group) and liveaboard the yacht and cruise the islands while you learn. Or you can join the tuition yacht as a day pupil staying at our Beach Club. You can also combine a course with a second week on our flotilla so you get to skipper your own yacht in week two.

You can also book the yacht and instructor privately for 2 to 5 persons. All courses can be taught together, so it’s a great way for mixed groups  (age 10+)  to learn our Youth Sailing, Competent Crew, and Day Skipper courses at the same time.

HOW TO TAKE A COURSE

Families and learning with kids

If you’d like your children to take part in our courses, we recommend they are at least 10 or 12 years old and strong enough to operate the yacht’s deck gear. If you are worried that they may not be able to take part in all aspects of sailing then please don’. They can be awarded a Youth Sailing Scheme certificate, if they are unable to complete everything. At this age, it’s the experience and the taking part that counts!

Families often like to book a tuition yacht and instructor privately because all our courses can be taught at the same time and this works very well. The yacht will take up to 5 pupils. If you liveaboard the yacht, your instructor will need a cabin, or he can sleep aboard our lead boat when following the flotilla to give you some added privacy.

Safety at Sea

Our Tuition yachts are regularly inspected and comply with RYA / MCA guidelines and Codes of Practice for Sail Training Yacht. All instructors are RYA certified. And our yachts comply with Greek and British RYA  maritime regulations.

  • You are under the supervision of an RYA qualified instructor whilst at sea.
  • All our RYA instructors hold the requisite first aid certificates and are fluent in English (all courses delivered in English, as per RYA regulations).
  • Safety equipment on our tuition yachts complies with British RYA and Greek maritime authority regulations.
  • All yachts have DSC VHF radios, handheld VHF radios
  • Slimline inflatable life jackets, harnesses and crotch straps are provided for each person aboard, with spares carried on board.
  • Our tuition yacht is equipped with electric anchor windlass, a Bimini sun top ( a cockpit sun shade), hot water with cockpit shower, fridge, cooker, hobs, sinks, fully equipped kitchen.
