Sailing for everyone!

If you have never set foot aboard a boat before then don’t be worried, we are here to help you every step of the way. Dinghy sailing is surprisingly easy to grasp and we can have complete beginners sailing solo after their first morning.

All our centres are ideal for learning to sail, which is made especially easy with warm waters and light morning winds in all our resorts. Our friendly instructors are fun to be around, energetic and experts at teaching all ages and levels of fitness: from young and budding helms’ to the oldest of hands!

Our 'Start Sailing' course

Our Start Sailing course follows the RYA syllabus and runs for 5 days a week, (2-3 hrs a day). It’s free in all centres for guests to join-in with as they choose. This is the perfect course if you want to learn to sail and if you’ve never set foot in a boat before or want a complete refresh if you’ve forgotten old skills.

A fun and practical course run in small and sociable groups with our own Beach Club guests and designed to get you on the water and sailing your own dinghy after only your first morning!

If you complete all five mornings then you should be able to sail a boat around a triangular course and be confident in light winds. You’ll also get to go home with a new internationally recognised RYA qualification to prove your new skill.

Who can join?

Everyone can join in with this course. We encourage all ages and fitness levels to come and join the fun. Group sessions are very sociable and range in size with a maximum 6:1 student/instructor ratio

What to Expect

After a short session of shore-based training using a simulator to learn basic boat controls it’s out on the water with your instructor where the excitement begins.

Expect lots of support from your instructors and a safety rib always on hand for peace of mind. Progress at your own pace in our friendly and sociable group lessons which are exclusive to our Beach Club guests only so you can share good times afloat with other hotel guests.

The water is very warm and in the morning, conditions will generally be very calm with a light wind (Force 1-2). This means that the conditions for learning are very tame and easy-going, which will suit all ages and tastes.

If you decide to duck out of the course after your first day or so, then that’s no problem – after all it’s your holiday. However, if you stick with it you will be confidently sailing solo by the end of the week and you get to go home with a new RYA qualification.

They play an active role both on and off the beach in all parts of your holiday, so outside of lessons they are there to help in any way that they can.

Fantastic Holiday!

''The hotel is right on the beach and has its own sunbeds for guest use. The main reason for going was the sailing and we have nothing but praise for the Ocean Elements staff, right from airport pickup they were friendly and helpful. The watersports on offer were varied and whilst there was always someone there to assist you we never felt we were pushed into anything. The intention was for my husband to attend the RYA level 1 course and for me to sunbathe and read books. Once I saw the setup and felt the genuine enthusiasm of all the staff, I decided to have a go as well. I am a large lady with no previous experience but the staff never made me feel uncomfortable and were always encouraging and full of praise. Thanks in particular to Tom and Josh for getting me through my level one. We will definitely be back next year for level 2 !!''
