Our RYA Instructors

Our friendly team of British instructors are all fully qualified RYA (Royal Yachting Association) professionals. They are on hand all day to help rig boats, teach sailing groups, give advice, tips and guidance for all levels from beginner to advanced. They play an active role both on and off the beach in all parts of your holiday, so outside of lessons they are there to help in any way that they can.

Private tuition

Our holidays include enough tuition with 5 days of lessons and certainly enough to take you through a level of the RYA syllabus. However, you may prefer extra tuition or one-on-one tuition to help focus on a specific technique or skill. Private tuition is available and paid for extra in the resort. Lessons start at £41 per hour for one-on-one tuition and support boat cover. More information on Private Tuition.

Great Tuition and Staff!

''Cannot praise Ocean Elements staff highly enough - excellent tuition and every member of staff were professional, friendly and fun but then was also no pressure to do things if you didn't want to. Will definitely recommend you''.

Who can join?

All ages (14+) and fitness levels are welcome, so come and join the fun, we ask that you either have your Level 1 or can demonstrate an ability equivalent to level 1. Group sessions are very sociable and range in size with a maximum 6:1 student/instructor ratio.

What to expect

After a short session of shore-based training using a simulator to learn basic boat controls it’s out on the water with your instructor where the excitement begins. Expect lots of support from your instructors and a safety rib always on hand for peace of mind.

Our teaching groups are fun and very sociable and designed to give you a mixture of shore based theory and lots of water time in Lasers, Picos, Hartley’s and Bahias so that you can perfect manoeuvres and brush up your skills.

We will cover better boat handling and focus on lots of time on the water in boats to perfect those skills. Expect to try roll tacking, gybing, capsize techniques (dry capsize) and a short introduction to advanced techniques via taster sessions with an instructor to demonstrate sailing with spinnakers and trapezing if time allows.

You’ll get a fun and light-hearted introduction to the world of racing so that you can take part in fun races at the middle and end of the week.

If you decide to duck out of the course after your first day or so, then that’s no problem – after all, it’s your holiday. However, if you stick with it you will be able to sail and make decisions in fair conditions and you get to go home with a new RYA qualification.

In all our centres we offer fun regattas throughout the week which all levels can join, with a mid week and end of week regatta. The racing is aimed at all levels, it's all about taking part and having fun - so it's OK to show your competitive side too!

Dinghy Cruising

We also offer sociable dinghy cruises where conditions allow. These are longer-distance half day cruises with support boats on hand so you can get a feel for distance sailing in company. This is better for 2-handed boats and we normally offer technical clinics along the way aimed at cruise planning techniques.

The small flotilla of dinghies will often cruise to another island or beach for a mid-morning stop over for some swimming or a coffee and ice cream. Longer distance cruises are well-planned events which will always have instructors and support boats on hand.
