International Bareboat Skipper

This is a five day course aimed at people with some prior sailing experience. It’s the perfect follow-on course for our IYT Flotilla Skippers and a great course if you have experience but no ‘piece of paper’ to prove their skills. When you pass the International Bareboat Skipper qualification, you will automatically receive the “International Certificate of Competency” (ICC).

This certificate is the level of competence that one needs when chartering a boat in the Mediterranean or West Indies where there are restrictions in terms of cruising area and distance from the base and the vessel has to be safely moored in a marina or anchored before dark.

At a Glance

  • Beginner Bareboat Skipper course (18+)
  • Take the Flotilla Skipper qualification in just 5 days (with us)
  • Entry level requirements: pupils to have logged 0 days at sea and 200 miles min.
  • Lifetime qualification. Renew subscription to IYT every 5 yrs, $80
  • Includes VHF radio license, discount if you already have license
  • We teach a ‘continual assessment’ method with no nasty examination at the end
  • Take the course on a Beach Club holiday or liveaboard the yacht
  • Private hire of tuition yachts and family courses available

Course Requirements

The International Bareboat Skipper course has a recommended entry level requirement for the student to have logged over 200 nautical miles and 10 days at sea as First Mate or active crew.

The ideal foundation for entry to the Bareboat course is the International Flotilla Skipper course, however pupils may jump straight onto the Bareboat course if they have logged the required miles.

The recommended minimum age to obtain this certification is 18. Candidates who do not have 200 nautical miles may take this course and gain miles required to obtain certification during the course.

Certificate Limitations

  • Command of a vessel up to a maximum length of 78 ft /24 metres
  • In coastal waters up to 20 miles offshore
  • In daylight hours and in fair conditions with moderate wind and sea conditions

Those who have obtained the International Bareboat Skipper qualification, will automatically receive the “International Certificate of Competency” (ICC),

Recommended with a Stay Sail

We recommend you take our Flotilla Skipper course as part of a two week Stay Sail to our Beach Club in Vassiliki so that we can train you in week one (while your family enjoy the Beach Club) and then look after you on our flotilla in week two when you take your first steps in skippering your own yacht.

Our expert lead crew will be on hand to help you practice your newfound skills afterwards we’ll send you home a proficient flotilla skipper.
