You will be equipped to sail a keelboat and make decisions in good conditions. You will have earned the internationally recognised RYA Keelboat Level 1 and 2 Keelboat courses (on successful completion). You will also receive both level certificates from our RYA instructor.

Skipper your own yacht with Ocean Elements

Candidates with very limited experience of sailing can join our complete Start Yacht Sailing course and come away with their Keelboat level 1 and 2 qualifications. They will then be qualified to skipper one of our yachts (under 40 feet) on an Ocean Elements Flotilla on week two of a Stay Sail.

Complete newbies will enjoy our Level 1 and 2 Fastrack course which can be taken in 4 or 5 days to fit around a family holiday at the Surf Hotel Beach Club.

Inclusive ‘Flotilla Prep’ session

By special arrangement, we can also give novice yacht skippers on a Stay Sail our complimentary ‘Flotilla Prep’ session run by our lead crew on day one of our flotilla. This is a 2-3 hour session run by our lead crew on your first morning of yachting to cover things like boat handling and mooring.

Always there for you

Our Lead Crew will be able to assist with some aspects of your sailing, such as getting to know your yacht, it’s controls and systems, setting off and mooring up each evening. They are never more than a VHF call away and can be a great comforter when skippering for the first time.

The Keelboat

We use a 20-25 foot dayboat, which is a small, shallow-draft sea going day yacht. It has great performance and is suitable for racing or cruising but it is so stable ‘you could take your grandmother for a sail without alarming her’.

Our Keelboat is moored just off the beach or close to the Surf Hotel Beach Club and makes a great training boat for the keelboat course. A course that shouldn’t eat into too much of your time at our famous Beach Club on a Stay Sail holiday. The perfect course to get your teeth into during your stay as a pre flotilla trainer or just as a great standalone sailing course.
